Let's Go On A Safari!

You know what I’ve never done? Walked on the moon. No, I mean go on a safari! Would it be fun? I think so. Especially since Global Warming’s going to turn the world into a jungle in less than 5 years. Maybe.

Anyway, what better way to go on a safari than by doing it in South Africa? And if a safari isn’t your style, there’s plenty of other stuff to do there. Wikipedia says, “Among the main attractions are the diverse and picturesque culture, the game reserves and the highly regarded local wines. In recent years, tourism in South Africa has seen high growth with the first five months of 2007 showing the highest levels of tourism in South Africa since 1998.”

Sounds good to me! If everyone’s jumping off a bridge… they must know something I don’t! But who provides quality flights to South Africa? DialAFlight.com!

With so much to do in South Africa, I guess I better narrow it down a little. Let’s see, the ONE thing I’d do there is… work on my tan. Yes indeed.

Dr. Venture, Super Science — All Real!

Craig Venter, a famed geneticist whose last name sounds suspiciously like "Venture," will solve Global Warming and the Peak Oil Crisis simultaneously by genetically enhancing preexisting organisms to make them eat Carbon Dioxide (a greenhouse gas) and produce methane gas (fuel).

If that's not Super Science, I don't know what is!

(In case you're wondering, Dr. Venture and the term "Super Science" are both references to a cartoon called, "The Venture Brothers.")

So now the only question that remains is: what are the preexisting organisms Dr. Venter will modify?

New Book: Under a Green Sky: Global Warming, the Mass Extinctions of the Past, and What They Can Tell Us about Our Future

I came across this book today, and all I can say is wow. It describes how the five mass extinction events of the past worked. Four of the five, including the one that killed all the dinosaurs, involved greenhouse gases reaching a level that we could reach in 100 years if we're not careful. That would mean the death of over half of earth's inhabitants.

The way things work now, there's a cycle in the ocean, with water moving around enough to be oxygenated, allowing the right creatures to live. If it gets hot enough, that cycle will stop, the water will no longer be oxygenated, and those creatures will be replaced by bacteria. These bacteria will produce hydrogen sulfide, and much of the ocean's life will die. Worst case scenario? In 100 years, humans will have caused the 6th mass extinction event, and the sky will be green.

So this got me thinking. If we've got all the evidence, and all the reason in the world to change our destructive ways and clean up emissions, what's stopping us? Are there forces at work manipulating the belief of the public, and if so, why? What do they have to gain? How does one profit from the destruction of a planet?
